2-(Carboxymethoxy)benzoic acid is the organic compound with the formula C9H8O4. It is a white solid, soluble in water and other polar solvents. 2-Carboxymethoxybenzoic acid is a phenoxy compound with a carboxylate group. The molecule can exist as different polymorphs, including monoclinic, orthorhombic and hexagonal forms. The most stable form of this molecule is the monoclinic form. 2-Carboxymethoxybenzoic acid has been used as an anti-inflammatory agent in detergent compositions, where it inhibits bacterial growth by binding to lipids in cell membranes and inhibiting membrane function.
