Description

5-Chloro-6-methyl-1H-indole is a potential drug that acts as an allosteric modulator of the GABA receptor. 5-Chloro-6-methyl-1H-indole has been shown to increase the affinity of the sensor domain for GABA, which increases the sensitivity of the sensor domain to GABA and can reduce the frequency of spontaneous opening. 5-Chloro-6-methyl-1H-indole has also been shown to bind to allosteric sites on the GABA receptor and alter its function. It has been shown to be a potent antagonist of recombinant human α4β2 receptors with an IC50 value of 1 μM. The efficacy of this compound was tested in rat cortical neurons and its effects were confirmed by measuring changes in intracellular calcium levels.
