Chlorobenzene-d5 is a synthetic compound that can be used as an analytical reference material. Chlorobenzene-d5 has been used in the analysis of solutes in the environment, detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and identification of unknown substances. The usefulness of chlorobenzene-d5 as a reference material is due to its stability and high abundance in nature.

A study investigating the health effects associated with exposure to chlorobenzene-d5 found that symptoms were limited to skin irritation at concentrations above 2%. The majority of cases were found among workers who had not followed proper safety precautions or who had been exposed to high levels from spills or leaks. Based on this study, it is unlikely that chlorobenzene-d5 would cause significant health effects at low concentrations.
