Description

3-Chloro-N-methylbenzylamine (3CMB) is a photosynthetic agent that is used in the study of the effects of light on plants. 3CMB binds to messenger RNA and inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the activity of ribosomes, leading to cell death. The inhibitory effect of 3CMB on photosynthesis has been observed at high concentrations, but not at low concentrations. 3CMB also inhibits the growth of nematodes and anthelmintics drugs such as levamisole, which are chemicals that are used for the treatment of worm infestations in humans. 3CMB has been shown to inhibit radiation-induced damage to cells by binding to DNA and preventing strand breaks from occurring.
