3-Chloromandelic acid is a white crystalline solid that can be used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It has the ability to form different polymorphs and can be used in the preparation of pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, pesticides, and other chemicals. 3-Chloromandelic acid is soluble in trifluoroacetic acid and insoluble in water. It is also used as a ligand for metal ions, such as copper(II), zinc(II), or nickel(II). The compound is chiral with an enantiomer ratio of about 1:1.
