1-(4-Chlorophenoxy)-4-nitrobenzene is a chemical compound that is used as a solvent in paint, varnish, and lacquer. It has been shown to be harderian and fetotoxic. In postnatal animals, exposure to 1-(4-chlorophenoxy)-4-nitrobenzene causes changes in the glands of the thyroid and adrenal glands. Fetotoxicity was observed in prenatal animals exposed to this chemical. The chemical has been found to have teratogenic effects when administered to pregnant rats, causing abnormalities in the fetus such as cleft palate and skull malformations. Treatment with this chemical lead to an increased incidence of perinatal mortality in rats.
