It has been shown to have hypoglycemic activity in rats and can inhibit the drug interactions of oral hypoglycaemic drugs. 3-Cyano-7-hydroxycoumarin also inhibits NADPH cytochrome P450 (P450) activity and may be useful for determining the concentration-time curve of drugs that are metabolized by P450 enzymes. 3-Cyano-7-hydroxycoumarin is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
