2-[2-[2-Chloro-3-[(1,3-dihydro-1,3,3-trimethyl-2H-indol-2-ylidene)ethylidene]-1-cyclohexen-1]ethenyl]-1,3,3-trimethylindoliumiodide is a chromophore. It can be used as a fluorescent probe to measure mitochondrial membrane potential and the membrane potential of tumor cells. 2-[2-[2-Chloro-3-[(1,3-dihydro-1,3,3 -trimethyl -2H -indol -2 - ylidene) ethylidene]-1 cyclohexen 1]ethenyl]-1, 3 , 3 trimethylindolium iodide has been shown to inhibit tumor xenografts in mice. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria
