3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of a variety of drugs, including analgesics and antibacterials. It is synthesized by reacting chlorides with alcohols. 3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid acts as a surfactant, which reduces surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. It can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other drugs. 3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid has been shown to have antibacterial properties mediated by its ability to inhibit the enzymes responsible for bacterial fatty acid synthesis. It may have neuroprotective effects, which are due to its inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and carboxylesterase (CES). 3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid also has analgesic properties through its ability to inhibit lipases and monoamine
