- 5-chloro -1H-indole-3-carbonitrile
5-Chloro-1H-indole-3-carbonitrile is a recyclable zeolite that can be used in the catalytic conversion of indoles to cyanohydrins. This reaction produces a high yield and is not toxic, which makes it an excellent candidate for industrial use. The activation of the C=C bond in 5-chloro-1H-indole-3 carbonitrile by means of nitrous acid and sodium hydroxide yields cyanohydrin, which is then reacted with hydrochloric acid to produce 5-chloroindole.
Fluorination at the C5 position, followed by treatment with potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid, yields 5-(5'-fluoro)indole.
