2-Chloro-3-nitrothiophene is a molecule that belongs to the class of aromatic compounds. It has been synthesized by condensation of 2-chloropyridine and nitrobenzene. The functional theory for this compound is based on the idea that the nitrogen atom in the ring is activated, enabling it to attack a chloride ion. This reaction produces an oxindole ring, which can be opened by an acid to produce an analog with a chloride substituent.
