- 2-Iodo-5-chlorobenzoic acid
5-Chloro-2-iodobenzoic acid is a biochemical that is used in the synthesis of malonate, which is a depressant. It also has been shown to have alkylating activity. 5-Chloro-2-iodobenzoic acid has been found to be an effective neuroleptic drug in animals. It has a profile of depressant activity and its use may be limited by its ability to induce hypotension and clozapine antagonistic effects. 5-Chloro-2-iodobenzoic acid binds to chloride ions by hydrogen bonding and inhibits the release of dopamine by blocking dopaminergic neurotransmission. This chemical also reacts with nitrous oxide to form nitro compounds, which are known carcinogens.
