3-Chloro-1-butene is an organic compound that is used in the production of polychloroprene, a synthetic rubber. 3-Chloro-1-butene is synthesized by the chlorination of 1-butene using hydrochloric acid and chlorine gas. The reaction proceeds via a substitution reaction mechanism where the chlorine molecule replaces one hydrogen atom on the butene molecule. This type of substitution reaction is known as an eclipsing process because reactant and product molecules are in contact with each other for only a short period of time. The activation energies for this reaction are 25kJ/mol for the substitution step and 155kJ/mol for the breaking step. 3-Chloro-1-butene has a resonance energy of -4kJ/mol, indicating that it will be less reactive than other compounds in this class, such as 2,3-dichloroethene or 2,4,5-trichlor
