• Description: (R)-3-Chlorostyrene oxide is a natural product with an asymmetric synthesis. It has been shown to be an antiobesity drug that binds to the cannabinoid receptor and inhibits lipase, which leads to weight loss. (R)-3-Chlorostyrene oxide has also been shown to have atypical properties and is not yet approved for use in humans. As a result, it is important to prepare samples carefully when using this compound in research. The enantiopure form of (R)-3-chlorostyrene oxide was isolated from the fermentation broth of a strain of Streptomyces sp. (ATCC 927). This compound can be prepared by chemical ionization using electron impact ionization or chemical ionization with selected reaction monitoring (SRM) detection. Kinetic studies have shown that the enantiopure form of (R)-3-chlorostyrene oxide has a half life of 1 hour and causes death in rats
