cis-4-(tert-Butyl)Cyclohexanol is a hydrogen bond donor. It has been shown to have potential as a skin conditioner and anti-acne drug, where it reacts with the carbonyl group of the skin's sebum to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond. This reaction mechanism allows cis-4-(tert-Butyl)Cyclohexanol to be an effective treatment for acne, as well as other skin conditions such as dermatitis and rosacea. cis-4-(tert-Butyl)Cyclohexanol is not acutely toxic but there are some reactions that can occur in the presence of water vapor or hydroxy groups. Cis-4-(tert-Butyl)Cyclohexanol has been shown to react with hydrogen chloride (HCl) or hydrochloric acid (HClO), forming a deuterium isotope, which makes it useful in kinetics studies.
