Description :Amodiaquine is a drug that belongs to the class of antimalarial agents. It is used for the treatment and prevention of malaria caused by erythrocytic forms of Plasmodium falciparum. Amodiaquine has shown synergistic effects with other drugs, such as sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine, for the treatment of malaria due to P. falciparum. The mechanism of action of amodiaquine is not well understood, but it may involve inhibition of the Toll-like receptor. Amodiaquine has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reaction in a concentration-dependent manner and also inhibits polymorphonuclear leucocytes, which are important in innate immunity. In addition, amodiaquine is a hypoglycemic agent and can be used for the treatment of bowel disease.
