Chloramine-T hydrate inhibits bacterial growth by binding to platelet activation factor, which prevents growth factors from activating platelets. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on growth factor-β1, which is an important mediator in ovarian follicle growth and development. The drug also has receptor affinity for nasal epithelial cells and muscle tissue, as well as molars and teeth. This active form can be hydrolyzed by trypsin treatment into chloramines, which are less toxic than chloramine-T hydrate.
