Description

Cyclopentadecane is a cyclic molecule with the chemical formula C15H26. It has an average mass of 246.38 g/mol and a molecular weight of 286.4 g/mol. Cyclopentadecane is used in the synthesis of many organic compounds, particularly n-oxides, which are important for the production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Cyclopentadecane is also found as a natural compound in plants and animals, where it can act as an antioxidant to inhibit lipid peroxidation or as an anti-inflammatory agent. Cyclopentadecane also has been shown to have therapeutic potential for certain autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease or multiple sclerosis. The application of cyclopentadecane in cell culture systems has been shown to increase the proliferation rate of cells by inhibiting apoptosis and enhancing protein synthesis.
