Description

Captopril EP Impurity F is a potent inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and also possesses some natriuretic peptide activity. Captopril EP Impurity F has been shown to be a potent bronchoconstrictor in two-way crossover studies with colloidal gold signal peptide. Captopril EP Impurity F binds to the active site of ACE and prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, which is an important mediator of vasoconstriction and blood pressure regulation. Captopril EP Impurity F also inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects. Captopril EP Impurity F has been shown to have cardioprotective effects in animal models of myocardial infarction and pulmonary hypertension, probably due to its ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide.
