N-Cbz L-threonine amide is an alkoxycarbonyl compound that has been shown to be antimicrobial against a number of microorganisms. It has been shown to be active in the formic acid-catalyzed deprotecting of human urine samples. This product is also active against fungus and bacteria, including those resistant to antibiotics. The mechanism of action for this antibiotic is similar to sulfamic acid and formic acid, which are both used as disinfectants or preservatives for food. It also inhibits the growth of urethral pathogens such as E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. N-Cbz L-threonine amide is potentially toxic to humans if ingested or absorbed through the skin.
