Description

Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, which reduces the levels of angiotensin II by preventing its formation from angiotensin I. This in turn decreases blood pressure, as well as the work of the heart and volume of blood pumped out by the heart. Captopril disulfide is a fluorescent derivative of captopril that elutes from silica gel at a different point than captopril. It has been shown to have a glomerular filtration rate that is similar to that of captopril, suggesting that it may be an effective substitute for captopril in certain analytical methods. Captopril disulfide also has excellent chemical stability and kinetic data.
