Description

L-Cephalexin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan. L-Cephalexin binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. L-Cephalexin has been shown to be effective against streptococcal pharyngitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes and other bacteria. The optimum concentration for L-Cephalexin is 0.5mg/ml, which can be achieved through a control analysis.
