4-Chloro-N-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]benzamide (CHPBA) is an organic solvent that is commercially available. It is a phenoxy compound, which is a colorless liquid with a sweet smell. CHPBA has been shown to react with multi-walled carbon structures and form oxidation products, such as ethyl chlorides and ethyl esters. The reaction yield can be increased by using radiation or chloride gas. The hypolipaemic properties of CHPBA may be due to its ability to activate lipase in the liver cells, which enhances the breakdown of triglycerides into glycerol and fatty acids.
