Clarithromycin 9-oxime is a salt compound that can be synthesized from the antibiotic clarithromycin and the hydroxylamine 9-oxime. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of erythromycin, which is a macrolide antibiotic used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections. The chemical reactions involve refluxing with formic acid and benzyl alcohols to produce a monocarboxylic acid. This reaction is followed by methylating with methyl iodide to produce a hydroxylamine derivative. The hydroxylamine derivative can then react with clarithromycin to produce the desired product, clarithromycin 9-oxime.
