• Description: Colchiceine is a stable complex of colchicine with hydrochloric acid. It is an analog of colchicine, and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of collagen in human serum. Colchiceine inhibits the enzyme amino transferase that catalyzes the conversion of amino acids to proteins, which causes the immune system to produce antibodies against the tumor cells. Colchiceine also induces apoptosis by binding to DNA in cancer cells. The anti-infective properties of colchiceine are related to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria and act as a cytotoxic agent on human leukemia HL-60 cells.
