Cyanazine is a herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting the activity of cell nuclei. The reaction mechanism for cyanazine is not yet well-understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit dopamine β-hydroxylase and the production of tyrosine and phenylalanine. Cyanazine also has genotoxic effects, which may be due to its inhibition of DNA synthesis in cells. This chemical has been shown to have high toxicity in rats when administered orally or intravenously, as demonstrated by changes in co2 flow and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms at concentrations that are much lower than those that are lethal to mammals.
