3-Cyano-1,2,4-triazole is a nucleophilic compound that is used as a building block for the synthesis of anti-viral agents. It reacts with choline to form an intermediate that can be converted into an active drug by hydrogen bonding to a nucleophile such as chloride or amines. 3-Cyano-1,2,4-triazole has been used in the synthesis of HIV drugs and other compounds that are designed to inhibit viral replication.
