Description

2-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid is an aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase inhibitor that inhibits protein synthesis. It is useful as an antimicrobial agent and in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. 2-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid has been shown to be effective against soybean lipoxygenase and exhibits in vitro antifungal activity against Trichophyton rubrum, Candida albicans, and other fungi. The chemical is racemic with a chiral carbon at position 3 of the cyclopentane ring. The enantiomer (1R,2S) of this compound has been used to synthesize polymyxin B by using palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction with phenylacetonitrile and ethyl vinyl ether. This compound also forms esters with carboxylic acids such as acetic acid through an ester linkage.br>br>
