2-Chloro-4-methylpyridine-3-carbonitrile is a halopyridine that is synthesized by reaction of chloroacetyl chloride with pyridine. It has been shown to be useful in reactions involving nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic reactions, such as amination reactions. 2CMP can be modified with various substituents, such as chlorine, bromine, hydrogen chloride, oxychloride, phosphorus oxychloride and nevirapine. The modification of 2CMP leads to compounds that have different properties than the parent compound.
