1,4-Cyclohexanedione (1,4-CHDA) is an organic compound that can be used as a building block for the synthesis of other organic compounds. It has been shown to inhibit the formation of malonic acid in process optimization and asymmetric syntheses. This chemical reaction is very sensitive to temperature and pH levels. 1,4-CHDA has been shown to react with aldehyde groups with high activation energies in sequences that are acidic and have high chemical reactivity. The use of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) for salt formation is one way to increase the rate of this reaction. The use of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as a base during the reaction process has also been shown to accelerate this chemical reaction by increasing its rate. 1,4-CHDA is also a chiral compound and can be used in kinetic studies to investigate the different rates of reactions between enantiomers.
