2,4-Bis(Chloromethyl)mesitylene is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to form architectures with silver ions. It has been shown to have the ability to undergo transmetallation reactions with different metal ions. This compound can be used for the synthesis of palladium complexes and as a mononuclear labile anion, and it can also act as a counterion in supramolecular chemistry. 2,4-Bis(Chloromethyl)mesitylene has been shown to form stable carbenes and transmetallation reactions that are resistant to hydrolysis. The crystal x-ray diffraction analysis has shown this compound's ability to exist in both cis and trans isomers, which are not interconvertible.
