Description

2-Chloro-4-dimethylamino-6-methylpyrimidine (2CDA) is a molecule that has been used in the diagnosis of bacterial infections. The molecule is not toxic to humans and animals, but it is lethal to bacteria. 2CDA binds to fatty acids found on bacterial cell walls, which inhibits the synthesis of cell membrane lipids, leading to bacterial death. 2CDA has also shown pesticidal activity against insects such as mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches and has been used as a control agent against these pests. This molecule has been studied for its use in the treatment of meningitis caused by Encephalitis virus. 2CDA has also shown promise for treating malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
