The synthesis of 2-chloro-1,3-bis(dimethylamino)trimethinium hexafluorophosphate has been achieved by reacting phosphorus oxychloride with dimethylformamide and amines. This reaction leads to the formation of chlorides and heterocycles. 2-Chloro-1,3-bis(dimethylamino)trimethinium hexafluorophosphate inhibits glycogen phosphorylase by binding to the active site and blocking access to the substrate glucose. It also inhibits β-glucosidase, which prevents the hydrolysis of glucosides into glucose.
