4-Chlorobenzoic anhydride is an efficient method for the conversion of fatty acids to their corresponding esters. This reaction is accomplished by mixing a chlorinating agent with a metal chloride, such as ethyl bromoacetate and hydrochloric acid, in the presence of an organic solvent.
