2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzyl chloride (2C6FBA) is an organic compound that has vinyl groups and is a member of the class of halides. 2C6FBA can be prepared using a liquid phase reaction with alkali metal or by addition to the corresponding Grignard reagent or organolithium reagent. The product obtained from this reaction is a mixture of 2C6FBA and 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzaldehyde, which coelute when chromatographed on silica gel. 2C6FBA reacts with chlorine gas in the presence of magnesium to give chlorofluoroacetic acid, which is an important industrial solvent. The interaction of 2C6FBA and halides (e.g., bromine) in organic solvents produces hydrochloric acid as well as other products depending on the reactants used.
