2-Chlorobenzylamine is an inorganic acid that is structurally related to benzylamine. It has a hydroxyl group, which absorbs ultraviolet light and can be used for structural studies. 2-Chlorobenzylamine has been shown to inhibit monoamine oxidase (MAO) and is used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It also inhibits the amination reaction between hexamethylenetetramine and amines, which leads to the formation of benzaldehyde derivatives. This chemical also has a chloride substituent and is found as a cholesteryl ester transfer agent in benzylamines.
