• Description: (+/-)-N-Cyano-N'-4-pyridinyl-N'-(1,2,2-trimethylpropyl)guanidine monohydrate is an experimental drug that has been shown to inhibit the activity of voltage-dependent calcium channels in cells. It is a low potency channel blocker that blocks the flow of calcium ions into the cell and may be useful in treating congestive heart failure and metabolic disorders. (+/-)-N-Cyano-N'-4-pyridinyl-N'-(1,2,2-trimethylpropyl)guanidine monohydrate has also been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and cause a decrease in intracellular ATP levels. This drug is not active against whole cells or isolated mitochondria.
