4'-Chloro-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carbaldehyde (CBA) is an intermediate in the synthesis of oritavancin. CBA is obtained by condensation of benzyl chloride and aldehydes. It is also used as a precursor to other compounds. In the laboratory, it can be obtained by heating an ether with chloroform in the presence of acid. 4'-Chloro-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carbaldehyde has been shown to be toxic, selective and efficient for certain reactions.
