Trans-2-(4-Chlorophenyl)vinylboronic acid is a peroxide that is used in organic chemistry as a ligand in Suzuki couplings. This reagent reacts with alkenes to form butenyl boronic acids, which are then coupled to an electrophilic partner such as the boronate ester of an aryl halide. It has been shown to be stereoselective and can be used for the preparation of polyvinyl alcohols. Trans-2-(4-chlorophenyl)vinylboronic acid is also used as an extender in agarose gel electrophoresis, where it increases the distance between bands by increasing the porosity of the gel.
