5-Chloro-3-phenylanthranil is a medicine that is used to produce phenylacetonitrile, which is an organic solvent. It can react with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and acetonitrile in the presence of an alkali metal such as sodium or potassium to form 5-chloro-3-phenylanthranilic acid. The reaction requires a reaction time of about 2 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture should be injected into tetrahydrofuran, and the organic solvent should then be removed by distillation. The residue can then be hydrogenated at a high temperature to form 5-chloro-3-phenylanthranilic acid.
