6-Chloro-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin is a potential drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase. 6CHMC has been shown to be effective against HIV infection in vitro and in vivo, as well as inflammatory diseases such as asthma. The mechanism of action for this drug is not fully understood, but it has been proposed that 6CHMC binds to the boron nitride surface on the DNA. This binding causes an inhibition of DNA synthesis and replication, leading to cell death by apoptosis or necrosis.
