Description :4-Chlorophenyl)acetaldehyde (4CPA) is an aldehyde that has been shown to have inhibitory effects on the oxidation of leukocytes. 4CPA forms a chlorinated acetal with hydrochloric acid, which reacts with styrene and naphthalene to form a decaborane linker. The reaction yield for this reaction is dependent on the concentration of reactants. The mechanism for the formation of 4CPA from chloroform involves a nucleophilic substitution reaction in which the chlorine atom acts as a nucleophile and attacks the electrophilic carbonyl carbon atom in chloroform. Structural studies show that 4CPA can be considered as two molecules of hydrogen chloride bound to an acetal molecule, which may explain its inhibitory activity against peroxide.
