3-Chloropropyltrichlorosilane is a hydrochloric acid-soluble chemical substance. It is used in the synthesis of aristolochic acid and has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to their cell walls. 3-Chloropropyltrichlorosilane is also used as a reagent in gravimetric analysis as well as for the preparation of sodium sulfide. The thermal expansion characteristics have been determined through chromatographic methods. 3-Chloropropyltrichlorosilane contains chloropropyl, which can be substituted with divalent hydrocarbon groups such as chlorine or sulfur. This product contains hydrogen chloride and chloride ions, both of which are toxic at high doses.
