Cyclohexyltrichlorosilane is a hydrocarbon compound with the chemical formula CHClSi. It is a colorless gas with an odor that can be detected at concentrations as low as 0.03 ppm. Cyclohexyltrichlorosilane has been used in the synthesis of siloxanes, polysiloxanes, and polysilicones. The compound has been shown to react with radiation to form new products. This reaction is accompanied by a change in thermal expansion properties and low light absorption. The substance also reacts readily with hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen chloride to form new compounds. Cyclohexyltrichlorosilane is soluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane or dichloromethane, but not in polar solvents such as water or ethanol. It has optical properties that are determined by its molecular structure, which can be described using magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
