Cyclohexanecarbonitrile (CHCN) is a colorless liquid with a high boiling point. It is used as a solvent in chemical reactions and as an intermediate in the manufacture of other chemicals. The transport properties of CHCN are high, with values of 3.2-6.1 mmHg at 25°C. CHCN reacts with hydrogen chloride to produce cyclohexyl chloride and hydrogen cyanide:
CHCN + HCl → CHCl + HCN
Cyclohexanecarbonitrile has shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6, which may be due to its hydroxyl group that interacts with the hydroxide solution and forms an alkoxy radical.
