1-(2-Chloro-6-fluorophenyl)hydrazine (1CFPH) is an antiviral drug that blocks the polymerase chain reaction process. It has been shown to be effective against HIV and other viruses that have developed resistance to other antiviral drugs. 1CFPH inhibits the replication of HIV by binding to the reverse transcriptase enzyme, preventing it from synthesizing DNA from RNA. It also prevents the synthesis of viral proteins by inhibiting protein synthesis in infected cells. Treatment with 1CFPH can prevent or delay the onset of coronary artery disease, as well as reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and heart failure in patients who have had a heart attack or are at risk for one. 1CFPH has been shown to be safe and effective for use in children and adults for treatment of influenza and hepatitis B infections, respectively.
