Dicyclopentadiene is a chemical substance that belongs to the group of polymers. Dicyclopentadiene is a high-molecular weight polymer with an average molecular weight of about 2,000,000. It has a reversible covalent bond between the cyclopentadiene and the polymeric matrix. The reaction solution is an organic solvent, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF), in which dicyclopentadiene reacts with sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate to form monomers or dimers. Dicyclopentadiene can be used as a microcapsule for drug delivery systems because it has high resistance and insolubility, as well as being a polymer that can be modified with fatty acids.
