Description :
Diphenyl iodonium hexafluorophosphate is a photochemical reagent that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It reacts with hydroxyl groups, such as those found in the malonic acid molecule, and generates reactive oxygen species. This reaction can be used to study biological processes such as hydrogen bonding interactions and the kinetics of reactions involving organic molecules. Diphenyl iodonium hexafluorophosphate also has redox potentials that are high enough for it to act as a reducing agent. The reactant can be toxic to cells due to its ability to cause oxidative stress and damage DNA.
