Description

Dimethyl pimelate is a methyl myristate, which is a fatty acid that is used as a pharmaceutical drug. It can be found in chronic bronchitis formulations, such as Pulmozyme and Stiolto Respimat. Dimethyl pimelate inhibits the growth of infectious bacteria by inhibiting their protein synthesis, which may be due to its inhibitory properties. The sample preparation for this compound includes adding water vapor and heating it at high temperatures to convert it into a solid catalyst. A chemical test for dimethyl pimelate involves the use of hydrochloric acid and iron powder to identify the presence of nitrogen atoms. This compound has shown anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of inflammatory bowel disease.
