Description :4,6-Dichloro-5-nitropyrimidine is an intermediate in the synthesis of Tenofovir, a nucleophilic drug that inhibits HIV. It is produced by the reaction of chloride with amines and nitro compounds in the presence of ammonium chloride. 4,6-Dichloro-5-nitropyrimidine has been shown to have anticancer activity against human lymphocytes and other cancer cells. It can also be used for the treatment of AIDS. The biological properties of this compound are dose dependent and are dependent on the size of chlorine atoms attached to nitrogen atoms.
